Our Story

Care that continues. Connection that lasts. Support at Home, every step of the way.

On the Fraser Coast, community has always been our greatest strength. Neighbours look out for neighbours. People stop for a yarn at the shops. Families grow across generations of familiar streets, farms, and small towns. But as life changes — as children move away, health shifts, or mobility becomes harder — many older people begin to feel the distance.

MADCOTA Cares! was created to close that distance.

We began with two simple but powerful questions: Why do rural seniors experience greater social injustice? And what do they need to feel safe, supported, and connected at home?

So we asked them.

We sat at kitchen tables in Howard, Brooweena, and Tiaro. We listened to seniors on the phone from Bauple and Glenwood. We heard stories in Maryborough — stories of independence, resilience, and the deep desire to stay in the homes they love for as long as possible.

And the message was unmistakable: “We don’t want to leave our homes. We just need reliable help — someone we can trust, and someone we can afford.”

MADCOTA Cares! exists to honour that message. To stand beside our seniors. To make staying at home not just possible, but dignified, safe, and connected.

Our Why

We exist because every older person deserves to feel safe, supported, and connected — especially at home.

Across the Fraser Coast, many seniors live in small towns, rural properties, or quiet neighbourhoods where distance, limited transport, and changing health can make daily life harder. Some live alone. Some have family far away. Some simply need a familiar face who shows up, listens, and helps them stay independent.

Our why is simple: to ensure the social injustice of thinning — and in some places, non‑existent — in-home support services for rural and regional seniors becomes a problem of the past.

We believe home should remain a place of comfort, not worry. We believe connection is essential to wellbeing. We believe continuity builds trust. And we believe community is strongest when we look after one another.

That’s why MADCOTA Cares! provides warm, reliable, in‑home support delivered by local people who understand our towns, our roads, our weather, and our community spirit. It’s why we check in early during storms, why we prioritise high‑risk clients, why we support workers so they can support others, and why we walk alongside each person with dignity and respect.

Our why is lived every day through our promise: Care that continues. Connection that lasts. Support at Home, Every Step of the Way.

This is who we are. This is why we show up. This is why the program exists.
